Alice Hsu (right) listens to some advice on character development before the scene begins. Worked on another scene on Monday. Unfortunately my battery died mid-way through the shoot. Better preparation on my part is necessary. On reviewing the shots, I think I'm going have to add some light. Hope Williams (left) is blending in with the couch a little too well.

Sam Israel bursts out laughing upon hearing Graves Gladney and Jarami Calhoun discussing Pokemon during what is supposed to be one of the more serious scenes in the film. Well filming has started. Already, everyone is having fun. Unfortunately, I'm going have to do some reshoots of this scene due to an ill-placed tripod but it's good to get a chance to work with the actors and practice this difficult fight scene. Though you wouldn't know that looking at the picture above.
Today were the auditions for my ISM short film. The film is called Can We Ever Forgive?. It is a drama that explores the human capacity to forgive, despite intense experiences of pain. I saw a lot of great talent today and have found actors who I look forward to working with over the next two and half months to fulfill my vision. I am confident my film will be compelling and memorable to all who see it and I hope that filmmaking will remain a medium I can count on to tell the stories that brew within my mind. Thank you all to those who auditioned! I look forward to the making of this film!
With the semester coming to a close, it's hard to believe five months have gone by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday I was editing my first project for this class, a cancer awareness PSA about a former Ladue student. Now in the month of May and looking back, I realize I have learned a lot about news story formats, short films, and studio work. And while this may be the end of the semester, broadcast technology related work continues! This summer, I may be helping a company with some promotional videos and putting the knowledge I gained in this class to use. In addition, I will be writing a script for my short film next year, only this time, the film is going to be some twenty minutes in length and will be shown at my school's film festival. I know these oppertunities could not have arrisen without the masterful teachings of Mr. Goble and Mrs. Davidson. Thank you both, and I look forward to resuming work with the two of you next year!
Well, I fininshed my final project. You can view it on my videos page. The objective of this assignment was to tell a story with six words and six shots. I think I succeeded in that regard. The story we told had to be about ourselves. I believe I did well there with the whole domino chain of bricks setup. The first three words appear before the video and they are "Told One Lie." As the video illustrates, the first two bricks with 'Dad' and 'Keith' written on them have a piece of paper with 'Trust' written on it uniting them. Then, the telling of this first lie caused the trust that held my dad and me together to break (scissors cutting). This put some distance between the two of us (my brick falling over) and I ended up telling more lies (domino chain). The final result was disasturous because my dad was having a difficult time believing anything I told him and I felt terrible everytime I lied and was caught doing so. Eventually, our relationship reached a breaking point, and as the last three words state, "Trust was broken." But it was more than broken. As the glass in the picture frame depicted, the trust between us was shattered.
. . . Yeah. So, on a more positive note, please notice my story is in the past tense. My dad and I have since repaired our relationship and his trust in me is in the process of being restored. I just need to remember, no matter what happens, my father will always love me for who I am because I am his son and he will forever support everything that I love to do. Including this Broadcast Technology course. Thank you, Dad. I am very fortunate to have a father like you. It turns out I'll be making a final project for the Broadcast Tech course I'm enrolled in. Tell a story about myself in six very different shots is the assignment. My story is "Told One Lie. Trust Was Broken." I'll be using several pieces of symbolism to tell my story. I don't want to say much more without giving it away.
Greetings! I need to do better on updating this site. Many regrets I have not done so! For the duration of April, I was working on a short film, The Institute. This dystopian short film not only served as a broadcast assignment, but also counted as a project in AP literature. Working with a cast of all seniors was unique and this project could not have succeeded without the help from my cinematographer, Alek Bundonis. Thanks Alek! I hope you all enjoy this short film! For the month of May, I'm contemplating taking on a comedic short or I may cover the local Shakespeare in the Park and their comedy Twelth Night.
Greetings people! Long time no post and I'm sorry about that. Now on SchoolTube (and my videos page) is my first short film: The Broadway Bomber. This short thriller is about a high school professor with a preference for puzzles who finds himself solving a baffling code from an infamous theatre terror. Enjoy! My inspiration for this video came from the BBC series Sherlock, wherein the title character accesses his 'mind palace' to solve a puzzle, similar in manner to the method I used in the film. Your also notice similarities in my solving sequence and Robert Downey Jr. asTony Stark using his computer and Tom Cruise in Minority Report. For all you movie makers out there who are dying to know which software I used in animating the solving sequence, I simply used Motion, nothing fancy like After Effects.
In the midst of February, I am in the process of working on a human interest story on Onesto, a small Italian restaurant started by Craig Stenson, a man with a love of good food, no culinary education, and a dream to start his own pizza place. In this project, along with Will Ahlemeier, I did a news story on my dad's friend's restaurant. This video turned out nicely, though it was a bit of a hassle to film in a crowded and busy kitchen, the final result was worth it. Huge tip of the hat to John Nall, who said he wouldn't interview well, but he turned out to be our best interview next to Mr. Stenson. Also, thank you Mr. Stenson for the complimentary pizza for Will and me upon the finishing of our shooting. The web address for interested customers is www.onestopizza.com
In my Broadcast Technology class, we were assigned to make a Public Service Announcement (PSA). While there were several choices in regard to topic, I chose cancer awareness. I decided to cover the the story of a former student at my school who had passed away the previous summer from leukemia. In this brief, 30 second PSA, I tried to capture the pain of his passing, but also inspire hope for the future and encourage others to help. View the video on my videos page.
